In his Q&A with Entrepreneur.com, Kothari shares how he sought opportunities in the restaurant industry and became a franchisee, beginning with Subway in 2002.<\/p>\n

In 2010, he purchased three struggling Baskin-Robbins ice cream shops and in one year returned them to profitability.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Kothari’s first franchise investment, in Subway, stemmed from his belief that in 2002, Los Angelenos were beginning to look for healthy choices on-the-go. Given this interest in franchises with the healthiest options, \u00abSubway was a no brainer,\u00bb he tells Entrepreneur.com.<\/p>\n

\u2022 In Kothari’s thinking, the same-day Baskin-Robbins investment was an affordable addition to his portfolio, with a strong ROI and a well-known brand with a rich heritage in the ice cream industry.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Kothari tells Entrepreneur.com that he spent $450,000 renovating all three Baskin-Robbins locations, remodeling one store and replacing equipment in all three.<\/p>\n

\u2022 In Kothari’s opinion, franchising is the best way to own a business. \u00abFranchisors provide the necessary structure so you can grow quickly and own multiple locations,\u00bb he says.\u00a0 \u00abAlso, when you\u2019re with a franchise, everything is streamlined \u2014 from food ordering to sales to data to marketing \u2014 making it easier than building everything from scratch.\u00bb<\/p>\n

\u2022 Kothari tells Entrepreneur.com he has a lot in the pipeline. \u00abCurrently, I have two Subways under construction in High Desert and I\u2019m looking for sites for additional Baskin-Robbins locations in Orange County.\u00bb<\/p>\n
