2013 Franchise Forecast: Going Strong

2013 Franchise Forecast: Going Strong

200287799-001The IFA, a Washington D.C.-based advocacy organization, recently released a first quarter update to its economic outlook, which notes that franchise businesses “are expected to employ 8.3 million people in the U.S. by the end of this year and generate $802 billion in revenue.”

Quick-service restaurant category, which includes Subway and Dunkin’ Donuts, shows the most sales by dollar volume, with projected revenue of $200 billion. As for number of employees and number of establishments, the business, commercial and residential service industry (companies such as UPS stores, Fastsigns, Two Men and a Truck and Lawn Doctor) leads the pack, while real estate-related businesses are expected to exhibit the fastest growth.

Despite all this fair weather, however, IFA President and CEO Steve Caldeira thinks the forecast would be even better if business owners weren’t “anxious about the possibility of higher taxes and costs associated with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.”
