Mobile point-of-sale (POS) systems are helping small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in the retail/grocery/liquor segments build unique and satisfying customer experiences.

A recent article titled “Mobile POS Technology Heightens Overall Customer Experience” in Point of Sale News looks at how retailers are using mobile POS systems to add value and get closer to customers, with examples including line-busting, convenience, fast and efficient bill pay, coupon scanning and promotional support. The upshot is delivering “wireless connectivity for optimizing service while simultaneously increasing sales.”

Mobile POS systems essentially place the store in the hands of employees who may then answer questions, quote prices, handle stock and inventory and contact suppliers on customers’ behalf. Other benefits of the technology include inventory and back-office support, payment options, and loyalty programs that can capture valuable customer data.

Sales of mobile POS systems have been healthy, and are expected to reach $3.1 billion by 2018.
