EMV & PC-Charge End of Life Information

The following page will provide information on the impact of the upcoming EMV (Europe/MasterCard /Visa) on POS systems using PC-Charge software for merchant account processing.

What is PC-Charge? PC-Charge is an integration software which has been used for years as the means of integrating POS systems with third party merchant accounts.

What is EMV? EMV is standard for inter-operation of integrated circuit cards (chip cards) for authenticating credit or debit card transactions. It is the credit cards (currently used in Europe) that have chips in them that make it harder for criminals to replicate. Now these chip cards are being issued in the USA and merchants must also have the needed EMV hardware to be EMV-compliant. Your recent personal credit cards may have these chips as well.

When is EMV going into effect? October 1, 2015.

Who has been responsible for establishing and pushing this standard onto merchants? It is Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express. The POS companies and merchant account providers had no part in this.

What is happening to PC-Charge? The manufacturer of PC-Charge has announced the End-of-Life for PC-Charge including 1) PC-Charge will not support EMV, 2) PC-Charge will no longer provide support or update PC-Charge, and 3) PC-Charge users will be PCI non-compliant going forward.

Since PC-Charge will no longer be valid what must I do to become EMV-compliant? You can subscribe to the integrated merchant account provided by Sintel Systems which is directly integrated into the POS software, is PCI and EMV compliant with the added hardware.

What hardware is needed for be EMV compliant? A special pin pad and EMV card reader that is connected to the POS but is placed in-front of the customer.

Why is this hardware not fully integrated into the side of the POS system? As part of EMV, the card is not supposed to leave the customers sight or possession. Therefore the customer must insert the card into the machine, whait for it to read, and the remove it.

Where can I purchase the hardware from: Please see here:  EMV Reader & Pin Pad or call us at 972-POS-TECH

How many of the EMV-ready pads do I need? One per POS terminal.

Who will configure the EMV-terminal for me once I receive it? Sintel Systems will do all the needed configurations. We will send the terminals configured and then perform the configuration on your POS systems remotely overnight. Please remember to leave them on at night.
