Kroger-Bans-VISA- credit card-merchant-accounts-sintel-blogThe largest supermarket chain known as Kroger is thinking about expanding its Visa credit card ban. This means Visa credit cards will no longer be accepted as payment at Food Co. stores, like Food 4 Less and Ralphs, in the state of California. This ban will begin to apply at 21 of their stores and at 5 fuel centers as early as this month of August.

It is estimated that around 90 billion dollars in “swipe fees” are paid a year by retailers. Kroger therefore went through with this decision due to the money the company could save on fees charged when processing credit card payments. These fees are lower when it comes to debit cards, checks, and cash.

This will ultimately save Kroger, and its customers, money as it will allow Kroger’s Food Co. stores to offer customers low prices and services. Food Co. stores will however continue to accept Visa debit cards, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover credit cards.

With more and more people paying with card it then becomes necessary for companies to not only think where they can save money but in what they can invest it in so that there is overall growth.
