Where’s POS on your opening day checklist?
Opening a new restaurant can be one of the most stressful experiences of your life. Before jumping in head-first into the chaos of opening your own business, it is important to plan ahead.
At Sintel Systems, we suggest making a checklist to remember all of the things that need to be accomplished before your grand opening. Most people do. But what’s often forgotten is the time it takes to set-up, test and train your Point of Sale (POS) system.
As a new business owner, it is important to make sure that all of your equipment is working properly. From your stove, oven and fryers to your POS system; it all needs to be running at 100% before the big day.
For a pizzeria’s grand opening, as the first customers walk in, the owner realizes that he never tested his POS software and his employees barely know how to turn it on, much less process orders at the speed the equipment is capable of. The opening would be a disaster and the pizzeria would receive harsh criticism for not being prepared.
If the owner had planned ahead, learned how to properly use his POS and trained everyone accordingly, then the opening day might have been a huge success.
For it is not only the owners who need to be trained on the POS hardware and software, but the employees as well. There needs to be a designated time when all employees learn how to effectively use the POS well in advance of seeing the first customer. An ounce of training is worth ten pounds of cure trying to fix a damaged reputation.
As well as testing out the equipment, before opening a restaurant, an owner also needs to make sure that all of the restaurants deliveries are in place and the inventory is up to date. A POS system is the perfect tool to organize the inventory in whatever way is most effective for the restaurant.
Make sure your POS provider offers training and set-up as part of its commitment to you and your business.
